I was hired by Quality Dining in November 2013 to work as a dishwasher for Chili's. I had no previous restaurant experience.
I worked as a dishwasher for two years. My duties were centered around making sure guests had the cleanest experience while dining in with us.
I was offered to become a line cook after working as a dishwasher for two years and accepted it. I put in an additional seven years as a cook.
I was responsible for cooking and prepping food according to company specs, cooking food to order, opening the kitchen, closing the kitchen, training new hires, cleaning the kitchen and detailing equipment.
I excelled as a line cook and accepted a promotion to an hourly supervisor (Chili's called it Job Code 39), which occurred from June 2022-June 2023. Then I became a salaried manager from June 2023-January 2025. In total, I have over 2.5 years of experience as a restaurant manager.
As both an hourly supervisor and a salaried manager, I was responsible for ordering food, paying invoices, counting and balancing money in drawers, writing and adjusting schedules, training new hires, praising and coaching front of house and back of house, delegating cleaning tasks, executing proper line checks (which involved using thermometers and test strips), overseeing labor costs, reporting to my bosses, and ensuring that our guests left with full bellies and a smile on their faces.
I also have been thrown into situations where I had to embrace new challenges, like call outs, scheduling conflicts, having to step in as a server, food runner, prep person, or cook when business dictated. I am and will always support my team regardless of any predicament that arises.
