My goal as an MLL teacher is to share research-backed English language learning strategies to ELLs for fluency development and college and career readiness. My experience in teaching the language of music to students on 'starting', 'emerging' and 'developing' levels of proficiency and literacy has helped my instruction of ELLs in meeting language and content objectives.
Serve over ninety-five K-5th grade MLLs in curriculum-based instruction using Benchmark Express and Benchmark Hello in thirty-minute pull-out sessions. Administer WIDA screenings to newcomers/newly enrolled students throughout the year as well as administer the WIDA ACCESS assessment once a year. Complete or update student reports such as: quarterly monitoring of exited students, quarterly progress reports, WIDA Assessments Accessibility and Accommodations forms and MLL Students with Disabilities (SWD) reports. Communicate MLL related news and updates to building administration and faculty as well as to MLL families. Observed, evaluated, instructed and assessed a seventh grade long-term ELL student attending Stanton Middle School in the Red Clay School District. Applied instructional and learning techniques and strategies for accommodating the student's needs during tutoring sessions. Made informal and formal assessments to determine the student's strengths and learning needs. Shared case study conclusions during conference sessions with the student's ELL teacher. Utilized the Flynt/Cooter Comprehensive Reading Inventory to measure English language proficiency. Made observations of professional MLL instruction given by Stanton Middle School's MLL teachers. Prepared and presented a protocol of programs and assessments for ELLs to a Stanton MS administrator and faculty.
Instructed Red Clay District ELL students in Kindergarten, third and fifth grades using lesson plans of the Summer ELL teacher in half-day sessions at Richardson Park Elementary School.
Traveled to nine schools - six middle schools and three elementary schools - in the second largest public school district in the state of Delaware which serves more than 15, 000 students in an inclusion based system. Built and managed the primary and secondary strings programs through recruitment and retention of strings students in grades four through twelve. Managed and directed yearly performances that serve as authentic assessments of student progress.
