  • Directed on-shift operations, under instruction, of the largest nuclear reactor in the United States, ensuring safe and efficient operation, while ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Completed SRO licensing class, passing the SRO certification.
  • Acted as Advisor to the shift manager on shift, analyzing steady state and transient operations for safety, effectiveness, and maintaining appropriate risk awareness for all operations.
  • As Clearance and Tagging Supervisor, championed the Energy Control Process (ECP), coordinated the operation of clearance order writers, and drove continual performance improvement of the station in regards to protecting its workers including spearheading the 2009 Root Cause Analysis of ECP.
  • Following the beginning of implementation of actions outlined by the 2009 root cause analysis there were zero breakthrough ECP events for over a year. There were 8 such events in 2009.
  • Designed and implemented multiple station all-hands stand-downs to discuss performance shortfalls, emphasize station ECP performance improvement efforts, and industry operating experience.
  • Designed and implemented a Clearance Holder remediation plan designed to improve the behaviors and provide holders a “toolbox” to enhance their ability to meet the required standards for ECP performance, resulting in zero holders errors during extended refueling outage.

  • Coordinated complex evolution of refueling the reactor with no loss of operational capability.

  • Underwent two (2) NRC inspections of facility operations with zero deficiencies or action items.
  • Instituted quality assurance program meeting requirements of NQA-1 for RINSC.

  • As Engineering Watch Supervisor, directly supervised the safe and efficient operation of the nuclear propulsion plant.
  • Acting as Quality Assurance Officer for nuclear powered submarine transformed a quality assurance program during an intensive multi-year shipyard overhaul from a substandard program to a model program, as evidenced by zero deficiencies found during four (4) semi-annual audits conducted by Naval Sea Systems Command, and zero required rework of ship’s force work.
  • Developed a ship-wide audit and surveillance program resulting in improved processes as seen in all departments during evaluation by outside agencies.
  • Evaluated by senior management as the most effective reactor laboratories division in our squadron of submarines 8 times. Received the highest grade of “Excellent” during 9 Operational Reactor Safeguards Examinations.
  • Recognized by the command and outside agencies as best operational supervisor and most dynamic leader in the department.
  • Selected over senior supervisors as the watch supervisor for major plant evolutions.
