Elizabeth Unger

As a dedicated nursing student with a strong passion for patient care shaped by my own experiences as a patient in various units throughout my childhood and adolescence, my passion for nursing began before I can recall. Initially drawn to caring for infants, my journey at Saint Mary’s has opened my eyes to the many diverse paths within nursing, particularly behavioral health. My goal is to continue developing the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality, holistic care across the lifespan and make a true difference in the lives of those I have the privilege of caring for.

Memorial Epworth Center - Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital

• Worked collaboratively with the healthcare professionals on the Adolescent, Adult Depression, and Adult Acute Psychiatric Units
• Interacted and spoke with patients
• Attended and participated in therapy groups and self-help groups with the patients conducted by Occupational Therapists, Recreational Therapists, Social Workers, and Nurses
• Attended report and staffing meetings each week on the unit
• Completed a care plan, process recording, and multiple clinical journals throughout my time in the hospital

Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Community - Memory Care Facility

• Worked collaboratively with the healthcare professionals in each of the four “houses” based on the severity of the patients’ mental health and memory issues
• Interacted and spoke with patients in each of the “houses”
• Attended and participated in group activities with the patients
• Assisted the healthcare professionals in organizing and preparing group activities, meals, and tasks around the “house”
• Completed a care plan and multiple clinical journals throughout my time in the facility

Holy Redeemer Hospital - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Meadowbrook, PA • July 2025

• 7 hours
• Shadowed the Neonatologist and NICU nurses
• Observed the NICU nurses in caring for the babies through tasks such as bathing, feeding, checking medical equipment, and obtaining vitals
• Observed Cesarean Sections in the Operating Room
• Observed the teamwork aspect of the NICU through medical team meetings, collaborative care for the patients, and goals being set for the unit as a whole
• Assisted in feeding and changing the babies

Saint Mary’s College - Health Fair Volunteer

Notre Dame, IN • March 2025

• Obtain manual blood pressure readings
• Obtain SpO2 levels
• Provide patient education based upon blood pressure and SpO2 findings, and compare patient levels to expected values
• Provide patient education about expected blood pressure findings, as well as the three stages of hypertension when appropriate
