Skills

  • Positive attitude: I try my very best to always be positive while working with kids or students with special needs, so they can feel confident in themselves and know that they have someone to depend on if needed
  • Teamwork and collaboration: I had to use teamwork and collaboration with my volunteers and the head chair of my event, so everyone would know what they were expected to do and also so that we could all be on the same page while planning and carrying this event out
  • Organized and efficient: I had to be organized and efficient while planning when certain teams could participate in the events, and making sure my volunteers would be able to get work done in a timely and orderly fashion
  • Problem-solving: Problem solving is a big skill that I've definitely improved by volunteering in this event, there were a couple mishaps such as vital forms being mixed up among the volunteers and one school's team didn't know what events were taking place Keeping calm and coming up with quick solutions was important to keep this event on track and to help make sure the athletes and coaches and parents were happy

Interests

During my senior year of high school, I got to know the life skills kids after my choir director decided to allow them to attend our rehearsals as an act of inclusion and bettering our school I also happened to have the same gym and lunch periods as their class, which gave me the opportunity to spend time and interact with all of the students, creating beautiful friendships during the school year I can honestly say that being with these students was the best part of my entire high school experience, and what really inspired me to become a teacher in the first place Now I'm studying at Kutztown and pursuing a degree in special education!
