I am the advisor of 2 clubs at Ryan Gloyer Middle School, where I work as a school counselor. The first club is SHOUT Club, which stands for "Social Handprints Overcoming Unjust Treatment." Mr. Ashley Porter, director of DEI here at Seneca Valley, asked me to start this group in the fall of 2022 after hearing that I had my ASCA school counseling specialist certificate in DEI. In this group, we learn about important DEI terminology, celebrate diversity, and host cultural celebrations. I am also the club advisor of a small group that I started called "Girls with Grit." The focus of this girls empowerment group is to help middle school girls learn what it means to have "grit." We do so by learning about 5 traits: confidence, optimism, courage, motivation, and endurance. At the end of the group, we go on a field trip to the Heinz History Center to visit the, "Rosie the Riveter" exhibition, for she is the face of our group.
