For my Silver award I designed a garden with plants that would bloom in different seasons hence the name "Blooms for all seasons". I chose to do this project to help with the decline in pollinators as well as my love for nature. A big part of the silver award is giving back to the community. My project solved a community need by creating new habitats for pollinators. The pollinators have lost a lot of their habitats due to development in our area. I wanted to help and inspire people with my project so hopefully more people want to do something else to help the pollinators. West Vincent Township gave me a space to build my garden in front of the established community garden I built from scratch an 8 by 8 garden bed. I measured out an 8 by 10 area and covered it with cardboard to kill the weeds. Then, Home Depot donated a few plants and materials to build the garden. Before I built the bed I used a rototiller on the dirt there and put topsoil on top. I then built the box which ended up being an 8 by 8 instead of 8 by 10. After that, I consulted a landscaper about the layout of my garden bed and got some more plants for my garden. Then, I put weed blocker that was donated from Home Depot, on top of the dirt. Finally, we planted the flowers in the garden bed and put mulch on top of the weed blocker.
