Work History

Cashier

Giant Food Stores
Kennett Square
09.2024 - Current

Worked up front, ringing up customers with their groceries, along with other small tasks (trash, cleaning, reshopping, etc.).

- It was my first job that required me to work with people constantly and interact with all walks of life, from those who got agitated easily to those with whom I couldn't effectively communicate. This job was also technically the first where I had to look a certain way and wear certain clothes, as I was no longer “behind the scenes.”

- Responsible for checking out items, cleaning registers, making sure tills were full, and effectively communicating with the checkout coach, who was somewhat like the cashier’s boss. It sounds like a lot, but it just becomes muscle memory. As a coworker of mine once said, “A monkey could do it.”

- Hours were pretty much all over the place, although I usually never worked earlier than 4 PM, which meant I typically closed when I was there, leaving me as the only cashier for the last hour or two.

- Customers also relied on us to answer any questions about the store, to the best of our ability.

Dishwasher

The Naked Olive
Kennett Square
06.2022 - 04.2024

Responsible for regularly cleaning dishes and other kitchen equipment, as well as other regular restaurant jobs (mopping, transporting food, freezer check, etc.).

- Worked for 3-4 evening shifts during the summer, each around 7 to 8 hours in length. During the school year, I only work one evening shift on Fridays, upwards of 8 hours straight of manual labor.

- Responsible for cleaning all pots and pans, mopping all the floors, and changing the rooms. This job was different from the previous dishwashing job in that it was more reliant on teamwork. At Mount Joy, it was slower in the evenings, so I was the only one they needed until closing. However, with this job, it was much busier in the evenings, requiring multiple people and, therefore, much more coordination with not only fellow dishwashers but also the line cooks.

- A large majority of my fellow dishwashers could only speak Spanish, so I have experience communicating with Spanish-speakers.

I worked for the entire summer of 2021 on the weekends.

- Responsible for cleaning all pots and pans, mopping all the floors, and changing the rooms. He was brought in early and kept late several times due to the need for extended service.

  • Participated in high school church's "cohort band", specifically the keys, where students in high school would play in a band for fellow students. Students would meet up at least once a week to practice two or three songs, then perform them during these "summit nights" every three months or so. We also were called to play during a "Renew" event, where other cohort bands from other churches would play in from of hundred of students, sort of like an authentic concert. I also was called to play along with other students to play during worship in the normal church service in front of many people as well.
  • Participated in another church event where high school students would help this organization called "Good Neighbors" which is a Christian group that focuses on repairing houses and yards for free. I participated during June of 2023 and 2024, both lasted around three days. Both years I was tasked with other with completely redoing three roofs entirely, which meant removing the old shingles, removing the nails, adding the ice sheets, and then applying the new shingles. It was hard work that was done in the blazing heat with not much shade, but the result was very satisfying.
