President's Club Award

Inducted into the Presidential Club

1. Please summarize your reason for nominating this team member:

It is with great pleasure that we nominate Joyce Knowles for the PSL President’s Club. Joyce was a young and inexperienced personal care aid when she joined the Kirkland Village family in 2011. Through the years she has grown and matured into a compassionate, competent, and kind professional. Joyce has consistently proven her dedication and commitment to the residents that we serve, always willing to pick up additional hours on a variety of shifts and in all three levels of living. Joyce is a mentor. She plays a significant role in welcoming, orienting and educating new nurses and med-techs. Her warm smile and calm manner make her an excellent choice for this role. She is a superb communicator. Her co-workers appreciate how she consistently shares information both within and between shifts and departments. Joyce’s love of learning is evident as she regularly looks for ways to enhance her clinical skills and to grow as a professional. We are very fortunate to have this long-term and dedicated employee on our team. She truly is an asset to Kirkland Village and the PSL family.

2. Please provide detail of specific projects completed, which support this nomination:

Joyce has assumed responsibility for managing the Briarholme schedule. She manages this process in a fair and creative manner, always assuring that both resident and staff needs are met.

The Resident Services Manager position was eliminated in April 2023. Joyce immediately stepped up to help support the department. She was trained on how to complete the RASP and then assumed a leadership role in training the other LPN’s across the department.

Joyce successfully completed the DHS Medication Administration Train the Trainer Program in March of 2024. She is now responsible for the training and re-certification of all med-techs per DHS regulation.

In July 2024, Joyce accepted a new responsibility and became the Briarholme clinical lead. This promotion formalized her role of supporting her LPN colleagues. She recently held her first of many LPN meetings to support and improve the skill set of our licensed staff. The goal of this initiative is to improve customer service, promote consistent approaches to daily tasks, to streamline processes and to improve staff retention and employee satisfaction.

Joyce is developing her supervisory and managerial skills with the support of PCHA. She is a willing student who is learning new skills, including how to coach staff as needed.

3. How has this team member demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our residents, fellow team members, and visitors?

Joyce provides excellent customer service. Residents and families regularly seek her out for guidance and support. Co-workers both respect and enjoy working with her. Her calm demeanor remains intact during times of high stress, whether it is complex caseloads, staffing challenges, infectious outbreaks, or mother nature’s fury. Her calm approach builds trust and is reassuring to team members, residents, and visitors.

5. How has this team member assisted fellow team members in a meaningful manner?

Joyce is an excellent mentor. She makes herself available to team members at all times, even on her days off they know she is just a phone call away.

6. How has this team member consistently upheld PSL values?

No matter how busy the work load, Joyce always exhibits a positive attitude. She has an excellent rapport with co-workers, residents and families and is an advocate for residents’ needs. Joyce has a strong faith and a solid moral compass. No matter the situation, you know Joyce will always do the right thing. She gives unconditionally of herself to our residents, co-workers, family, and friends. Joyce supports our PSL values in the way she approaches her work day and in each task she performs, always putting the residents first!
