
Recreation Specialty Instructor (RSI) is a part-time staff member who leads specific recreational activities for children and adults at various recreation centers and playgrounds throughout the city. These activities can include arts and crafts, athletics, child care, dancing, dramatics, music, and sewing.
Activity Instruction: Teach and organize specialized activities such as painting, drawing, ceramics, boxing, gymnastics, folk dancing, puppetry, chorus, sewing, and more.
Program Planning: Collaborate with other staff to plan and schedule activities, ensuring they are engaging and appropriate for participants skill levels.
Participant Engagement: Encourage participation and motivate individuals or groups in the specialized activities.
Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe environment by supervising participants during activities and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Record Keeping: Prepare and maintain records and reports on activities, behavior, and, if applicable, medical information for assigned youth.
Skills: Ability to instruct and engage participants in the specific recreational activity.
RSIs typically work at recreation centers, playgrounds, gym facilities of nearby schools, and in park areas. They may also participate in programs like after-school activities, summer camps, and special events.
