I first started as a production worker in the mill. There I would stack various sizes of boards and blocks into carts according before they would be taken to the drying process. From there I was moved to low grade which is a more difficult position but still very manageable. Down there I would do the same thing but instead of a conveyor belt I would pick the boards off a table and stack them into a cart. I would also run a belt sometimes to send boards to the edger. Another task I would do would be the grading and stacking of the low grade boards from the dry line. This would take concentration in ensuing the right grade for the board. From there I was moved to the dry line which is considered the most difficult and important. As a production worker on the dry line I work in a fast paced environment stacking various sized and width boards into carts while also paying attention to details such as length, side quality, and end quality to create a perfect final product. I also participate in the sticking of the boards which is the drying process. With this I quickly and efficiently put the sticks into the slots to ensure the best drying method. I have also done some work in the tallying section which is the final product overall. There you mark the boards depending on length and species. There you either put on 2-4 bands and 2-4 runners depending on length and weather it will be a domestic or import. After you paint the ends of the boards and paint the logo on the sides. Then it is placed in the warehouse. During downtime and when the mill isn’t running I do various cleaning activities from sweeping to crawling under machines to pull all the dust out from under to ensure the best possible running conditions. There the dirt and dust is either put onto the conveyor belt that takes it to the shaker table or put it in a wheelbarrow.
As a crew member I would help out with things such as restocking and carrying boxes. I would take orders from my managers and complete the tasks as soon as told.
