While I haven't had a healthcare job yet, the jobs I have worked have given me invaluable experiences and taught me many important lessons. Working as a nanny taught me so much about not only children, but also their parents. I've learned different strategies to engage with kids, developed a great deal of patience with the entire family dynamic, and learned to be creative and think outside the box to keep children engaged and supported. Being a volunteer has made me more kind, outgoing, and compassionate. It’s helped me learn how to connect with people from all walks of life, listen actively, and offer support in ways that are meaningful to them.
My experience as a barista taught me how to work in a fast-paced environment, stay organized under pressure, and communicate effectively with both coworkers and customers. I learned how to multitask, manage time efficiently, and maintain a positive attitude. That role also strengthened my customer service skills and helped me understand the importance of creating a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone.
These jobs have helped me build strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a genuine desire to care for others, all of which I believe will serve me well in my future nursing career.
Since I was about 5 years old I have done my best to teach the Bible to my neighbors. This has taught me so many important skills, the first and foremost being that I'm able to interact very well with others, even though I don't know them at all. It's taught me the importance of respecting others no matter what our differences are.
A few more things I've been able to do along the way are as follows:
