Coach Tobin received his training at the prestigious Port Washington Tennis Academy and Harry Hopman's academy in Bardmoor, Florida. As a collegiate athlete, he represented the University of Maryland at the Division 1 level. Beyond college, he competed on the European ITF Futures circuit in Germany and the Netherlands. His diverse experiences as a player have greatly enriched his coaching expertise. A native of Long Island, New York, Coach Tobin earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. The Associate Head Coach is critically involved in all aspects of the program, are given specific autonomy, and share responsibilities with the Head Coach in key areas of the program such as recruiting, coordination of play, coaching tactics/strategies, budget management, staff oversight, etc. The Associate Head Coach has significant responsibility in the following areas, but not limited to: mentoring assistant coach(es), scheduling and team travel, promotion of the team and University, fundraising and alumni events, practice planning, equipment purchase/inventory, and professional development; may share responsibility with the Head Coach in establishment/enforcement of team rules, community service efforts, etc.; represent the Head Coach at meetings, fund-raising functions, and alumni events; adheres to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations while supporting the core values of intercollegiate athletics.

  • Recognized as the ITA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018.

As the Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach my primary goal is running the program with a mission and vision that aligns with that of the University. Responsible for promoting the Saint Francis Tennis program to the tennis community with a heavy focus on recruiting student-athletes to be competitive student-athletes that achieve on the court and in the classroom. Responsible for organizing and directing all aspects of the tennis program.


ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Revitalized the Division I Men’s and Women’s programs at Saint Francis University, transforming them into leading teams within the Northeast Conference.
  • In under four seasons with the Red Flash, he achieved an impressive total of 76 match victories and over 798 individual wins in both singles and doubles.
  • During his tenure, Guided both teams to three quarterfinal and two semifinal appearances in the Northeast Conference, marking the highest achievements in the school's history.
  • Achieved the rankings of both programs improved significantly, ascending from 7th and 8th place to No. 3 by the conclusion of his time there.
  • Successfully recruited over 17 U.S. and international student-athletes who held top rankings both domestically and internationally.
  • Played a key role in raising over $12,000 for cancer research, an effort for which he was recognized at an award ceremony hosted by the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center.

Assistant Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach with management of the athletic program; assists with all aspects of the recruiting process; helps mentor student-athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; assists in gathering, preparing and presenting scouting materials; assists with film exchange; assists in practice planning and skill development; assists with team travel; assists with purchasing/inventory of equipment; assists in organization of sport camps; coordinates visiting team requests; compiles and maintains statistical information; supervises student managers and other ancillary personnel; coordinates team community service; represents Head Coach at events when required; performs requested responsibilities with booster club; assists with fund raising; ensures availability for media requests; adheres to all University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations while promoting the core values and strategic goals of intercollegiate athletics.


ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Men's tennis team was ranked 9th, and the women's team, ranked 19th, at Division II.
  • The men's team achieved a commendable 51-18 record, while the women's team recorded 42 wins against 19 losses.
  • The Bobcats made NCAA Regional appearances in 2009, 2010, and 2011, securing the Peach Belt Conference Championship in 2009.
  • Both programs qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010, advancing to the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, in both years.
  • In 2009, the men's team bested an 18-4 overall record, and a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play, marking the first Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championship in the school's history.

Essential Duties

  • 75% of the my time was focused on the development, planning and supervision of the business while 25% is focused on conducting lessons and clinics.
  • Supervised all tennis play and proper charging of fees, and rental of equipment.
  • Initiated, direct and promoted tennis clinics, special events and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members’ tennis interests.
  • Provided beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels of players.
  • Implemented and develops lesson programs for adults and juniors.
  • Enforced all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, equipment and other property.
  • Represented the club in state or national events as time will permit.
  • Oversaw the junior development program and after school programs.

In addition to his various coaching roles, Coach Tobin has held coaching assignments at several prestigious institutions, including Port Washington Tennis Academy, Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, IMG Bollettieri, Roslyn Racquet Club, Syosset Tennis Academy, Weston Tennis Center, Canongate Country Club, City of Fort Lauderdale, Holiday Park, Delray Beach Tennis Center, and Gerulaitis Tennis Academy. He has collaborated with notable figures in the tennis community, such as University of Georgia Head Coach Manny Diaz and ATP tour player John Isner, serving as the director of tennis for their summer tennis programs. Furthermore, Tobin gained international experience as a traveling professional for Tennis Europe, a program dedicated to training junior tennis teams as they competed in ITF tournaments across Europe.
