Mental Health Delegate provides authorization in the final step of the Pennsylvania Mental Health Act to involuntarily admit an individual for preliminary evaluation to assess that person's physical and mental needs. The process has evolved. Initially, the delegates and the petitioner worked independently and interviewed both the client and the petitioner to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act of 1976 before a 302 petition is completed. A crisis team is now plays a role in the process until the final authorization by the delegate.
