- Usually a part of a 2 or 3 man crew. I worked opposite an instrument operator finding points to lay out access road ROW's and Pipeline ROW's. In addition to pipeline ROW I also did many property survey's to Assist a client in finding their exact property lines and corners in order for them to get an estimate on thier property or for designation for future utility line construction or road construction.
- After a year I was entrusted with my own crew and able to run the measurement instruments ( Total Stations Manual and robotic ) and had a good understanding on all the tasks and tools associated with the job. With my own crew I was mainly tasked with identifying every pipe number, length, thickness, bend, heat number and weld number before any pipe was shot with our instruments for a physical location. so each location had information about the pipe in the ground.
Then as the Pipe was lowered to its final postion I was to task measurements and gather data as to a physical location of each pipe and weld. ( i.e. Elevation, and geodetic coordinates )
- In my 2 years at this company 85% of it was spent subcontracted from OIl and gas companies and Aqua and Chesapeake water companies. As well as PP&L for a few jobs.
