Accomplishments

  • Bugsy EPIC Build: Process of collaboration with multidisciplinary team to tailor EPIC platform in Bugsy application to meet the need of Infection Prevention. Infection Preventionist, IT, Laboratory, and EPIC were key role players in this build of a highly functional EMR.
  • Deep Dive Investigations: Implemented Deep Dive Discussion tool and process for all hospital-acquired infections and Surgical Site Infections to investigate the issue and mitigate its negative effects, if any, in an efficient and safe manner to promote performance improvement and better patient outcomes.
  • AU/AR Required Reporting to NHSN: Worked with Pharmacy, IT, and EPIC groups to assure that the AUR (Antimicrobial Use and Resistance) Surveillance data was accurate for NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network) reporting. AU/AR validation is complete.
  • ICRA: Initiated increased collaboration between Infection Prevention and Facilities Management to establish environmental controls according to the ICRA Matrix for Class 3 and 4 projects.
  • SSI Prevention Work Group: Multidisciplinary workgroup formed to assess the current state and future state of process flow of a preoperative patient through postoperative phase of their surgical procedure experience. Our goals are to connect these procedure areas and close any gaps in education, practice, etc. and focus on continuity of care where needed. We aimed to remove any opportunities that pose risks for infection. Scope: Orthopedic and Spine Procedures currently.
  • Hand Hygiene: Rolled out education and training for Purell Hand Hygiene Direct Observation for HH Performance Compliance. Purell software allows us to gather and managed data with ease.
  • MRSA Swab “Indeterminant” Results: Identified a trend of results from MRSA swab testing of “Indeterminant” results requiring recollection of the swab. Infection Prevention and the laboratory personnel conducted a deep dive from collection to processing. Discovery of a new assay that we were not aware of from vendor.
