Semi-Skilled Laborer

DCNR - Ohiopyle State Park

  • Nearly any and all maintenance needs for one of PA's largest and busiest state parks, including a whitewater river, 28 miles of the GAP hike/bike trail, visitor centers, a campground, over 20 thousand acres of land, and the small town of Ohiopyle within.
  • Duties include, mowing, trimming, brush hogging, clearing hiking and biking trails (sawing fallen trees, pruning brush, and pole sawing overhead branches), felling hazardous trees, removing hazard trees from river, limestone dusting and rolling bike trail (Bobcat and backhoe operation), safety fence along bike trail (Toolcat operation to auger holes) as well as fence structures around parking lots
  • Demolition of old structures and construction of new (viewing deck, stairs, and launch area as well as cabins, pavilions, and a total remodel of old visitor center)
  • Environmental resource management (Invasive plant and insect treatments, mapping, mixing solutions, preparing wildlife habitats)
  • Several years as certified applicator before moving up to applicator's license.

  • Generally the foreman, Brian, and I were left to split the crew we had to accomplish what jobs the owner lined up
  • *Favorite and one of the most intensive projects of note has been a full tree house (two story house nearly two stories in the trees) for a private resident at Nemacolin resort.
